Stephen M. Parks
Stephen Parks, who wrote the text for Jim Wagner, Taos, has been writing about Taos artists since his arrival in New Mexico 36 years ago. He is the author of R.C. Gorman: A Portrait (New York Graphics / Little Brown Books) and an editor of Taos Magazine and Southwest Profile. Stephen also co owns Parks Gallery with his wife in Taos, New Mexico where he shows and sells Jim Wagner's latest art. Stephen wrote in the Acknowledgements part of the Wagner book this about Jim: "One of the chief rewards of writing this book was simply the many hours spent with its subject. In the two decades I've known him, Jim Wagner has always been good company, but expecially in the tedious and sometimes painful process of extracting a life story. His conversation was focused and candid. He never glorified his circumstances or his status as an artist or a person; if anything, he tended to underplay his accomplishments. I am indebted to him for his story, of course, but also for the humor, honesty, and singular lack of pretention with which he told it."
